How Do You Treat Scars and Keloids?
Before suggesting a scar or keloid treatment, Dr. Payne will examine the scar to get an idea of its size and condition. For surgical approaches, a local anesthetic will be used to minimize feeling around the scar before it's removed. Thick or rough scars may be shaved down using a special tool for a more even appearance. Larger scars and keloids may be minimized with an elliptical incision, which removes the scar, as well as some of the surrounding skin tissues. In some cases, a scar or keloid can be removed using non-ablative laser treatments, which can help fade their appearance over time.
