How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling can be performed in around 30 – 60 minutes and typically requires no recovery time afterward, making it an easy treatment to slot into your schedule. To begin, your face will be cleaned of any makeup, oils, or debris. Dr. Payne may apply numbing cream or local anesthesia to minimize any discomfort caused by the procedure. The microneedling handpiece will be gently rolled over your skin, creating micro-injuries as it passes. Most patients report little to no pain during the treatment, and some say it feels relaxing. After the microneedling is performed, a treatment, such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or a serum with a vitamin infusion, may be applied so the nutrients can penetrate deeper into the skin. A moisturizer selected for your skin type will then be massaged in along with sun protection, as the treated skin will be sensitive after your appointment. Following the procedure, you might have light swelling and redness for about one day, but this should fade naturally. It can take about 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase before you notice visible changes in the appearance and health of your skin. Depending on your skin's condition and your own aesthetic goals, you may need to plan for 4 – 6 follow-up sessions spaced several weeks apart to get the full results you want.
