Dermal Fillers

Injectable gels that restore volume, contour, and hydration to facial areas. Common for lips, cheeks, and under-eye hollows.

What is Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers (sometimes called wrinkle fillers or injectable fillers) are a cosmetic solution for women and men who want to replenish lost facial volume. There are a number of reasons why you may be noticing hollow or sagging facial features, but age and weight loss are usually major contributors. Dermal filler injections work by delivering a cosmetic formula under the skin to fill out areas that lack volume or shape. Injectable fillers are a great, nonsurgical option for New Orleans, LA individuals desiring to even out fine lines, sagging skin, and/or wrinkles to create a younger-looking face. Dermal fillers use a synthetic version of the body’s natural HA (hyaluronic acid), giving the lift and volume enhancement for a more supple, natural appearance. A personal dermal filler plan can correct mild, moderate, or severe facial wrinkles and lines and also add fullness to the cheeks and lips. They can also be incorporated into other aesthetic services to mimic the effects of a facelift without the scars and downtime that often come with invasive surgery. There are many different types of fillers that can help meet the goals and expectations of each patient. To determine which products are right for you, we invite you to contact Flourish Dermatology And Aesthetics, where Dr. Payne can help you learn more.

Bruising may occur, but this may be camouflaged with cosmetics. Visible results are instantaneous right after the procedure and will continue to improve over the next week. How do we treat Dermal Fillers

Before deciding on which dermal filler is ideal for you, Dr. Payne will consult with you to learn more about your desired results. For the actual injections, we’ll start by administering a numbing cream as a local anesthetic to ease the discomfort of the injection. Dr. Payne will determine how much is necessary and will gradually and evenly inject it through a very fine needle. This procedure takes only a few minutes at our New Orleans, LA practice, and thanks to the anesthetic, you should feel little to no sensation from the needle. You may experience some swelling or bruising initially, but these symptoms should fade quickly. Typical results can last from three months to a year, based on the product and the placement of the injection(s). If needed, you can schedule periodic touch-ups with Dr. Payne to maintain your results.

After Treatment

Fillers restore volume, smooth folds, and enhance your facial contours almost immediately. You’ll often look more rested and balanced without surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most dermal fillers are temporary. Hyaluronic acid fillers commonly last anywhere from approximately 6–18 months or longer, depending on the product used, treatment area, amount injected, and how quickly your body naturally metabolizes the filler. Maintenance treatments can be performed to preserve your results.

Dermal fillers can be used to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, soften certain lines and folds, and create more balanced facial proportions. Common treatment areas include the cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, and areas around the mouth. Your treatment will be customized to your facial anatomy and goals.

Most patients tolerate filler injections well. Many hyaluronic acid fillers contain lidocaine, which helps improve comfort during treatment. Topical numbing or other comfort measures may also be used depending on the treatment area.

Yes. Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness, and bruising are common after dermal filler injections. Swelling may be more noticeable in certain areas, particularly the lips. These effects generally improve over the following several days.

You will see an immediate change after treatment, but the area may initially appear fuller because of swelling. Results generally become more representative of the final outcome as swelling and inflammation resolve over the following days to weeks.

Many hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if medically necessary or if an adjustment is appropriate. Not all types of injectable fillers can be dissolved, so your provider will discuss the specific product being used before treatment.

We generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for approximately 24–48 hours after treatment. Exercise can temporarily increase blood flow, swelling, and bruising. Follow the specific post-treatment instructions provided by your injector.

For the first day or two, you may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas, and significant pressure or manipulation of the treated area. Avoid massaging your filler unless specifically instructed to do so.

Dermal fillers have a well-established safety profile when appropriately selected and administered by a qualified medical professional. However, all injectable treatments carry potential risks, including bruising, swelling, infection, asymmetry, lumps or nodules, and vascular complications. Rare vascular complications can be serious and require immediate medical attention.

There is no standard amount that is right for everyone. The amount of filler recommended depends on your facial anatomy, treatment area, degree of volume loss, and desired result. At Flourish Dermatology & Aesthetics, the goal is to create natural-looking enhancement while maintaining balance with your existing facial features
